How to invite a translation bot to a LINE group
A step-by-step guide to adding Flewnt to any LINE group chat on iOS, Android, and LINE desktop.
Flewnt
The Flewnt team. We live in group chats too.
Adding a bot to a LINE group is not complicated, but the steps are buried two menus deep and differ slightly between iOS, Android, and the LINE desktop app. This post walks through each platform.
Before you start
You need two things:
-
A Flewnt subscription (or free trial). Start by adding Flewnt as a LINE friend using the button on the homepage. This does not add Flewnt to any group yet. It adds it to your contacts, which is required before you can invite it anywhere.
-
Admin or full-member status in the target group. In LINE, any group member can invite new members unless the group admin has restricted invitations to admin-only. If you cannot see the invite option, ask the admin to add Flewnt directly.
iOS
- Open LINE and navigate to the group chat you want to add Flewnt to.
- Tap the group name at the top of the screen.
- Tap "Members".
- Tap "Invite".
- Search for "Flewnt" in your contacts list. Select it.
- Tap "Invite" to confirm.
- LINE will show a system message in the group: "Flewnt joined the group."
- In the group, type
/onand send it. Flewnt will confirm that translation is active.
Android
- Open the group chat.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
- Tap "Invite".
- Find Flewnt in your contacts (search if needed).
- Tap "Invite" to confirm.
- Send
/onin the group.
LINE desktop (Windows or Mac)
- Open the group in the LINE desktop app.
- Click the group name at the top of the chat panel.
- In the group info panel that opens on the right, click "Invite members".
- Search for Flewnt in your contacts.
- Click "Invite".
- Send
/onin the group.
After adding Flewnt
Once Flewnt is in the group and you have sent /on, it starts translating. The first time you see it working, you will see messages in the format name馃挰translation appearing below each non-English message (or whatever your target language is).
If you have not yet set your target language, send /setup to Flewnt in a one-on-one message (not in the group) and follow the prompts. The setup is per-user, not per-group.
Adding Flewnt to multiple groups
Your subscription covers all groups. Repeat the invite steps for each group you want translation in. Each group needs its own /on command.
To see which groups Flewnt is active in, send /who to Flewnt directly (one-on-one message). It will list active groups.
Troubleshooting
Flewnt joined but is not translating.
Check that you sent /on in the group. Flewnt is opt-in per group. It will not translate until activated.
I cannot find Flewnt in the invite search. You need to add Flewnt as a LINE friend before inviting it to a group. Go to the homepage and tap "Add Flewnt on LINE". Once it is in your contacts, the group invite search will find it.
The group admin has locked invitations. Ask the group admin to add Flewnt directly. They follow the same steps above from their account.
Flewnt says my quota is full. You have used your 50 free translations. Upgrade to a paid plan on the pricing page. Monthly plans start at $6.
